A new version of Mozilla Firefox has just been released with the spiffy Social API, a feature that lets social apps work with Firefox and makes it easier for people to customize their own web experience.

As elaborated in the Mozilla Blog, the version of Firefox with Social API is integrated with Facebook Messenger and people who turn this feature on will see Facebook notifications and messages directly from the browser. isn’t that neat?

More from the blog post:

Much like the OpenSearch standard, Mozilla’s new Social API lets social services integrate into Firefox in a compelling way and makes it easier to use the Web the way you want. The Social API includes features like a social sidebar, toolbar notification buttons and the ability to easily chat with your friends no matter where you are on the Web.

So why don’t you try the Social API-enabled Firefox?

I cannot get Firefox to install properly or once it is installed, it will not open. I get messages that Firefox is already open; do I want to restart. I restart and it repeats. Have reinstalled a number of times. SOmetimes I get a message that Firefox is already open so I go to Task Manager and stop the Firefox.exe process and try installing again. I tried uninstalling first then reinstalling. Doesn’t work (version 27.0.1 form Firefox website, same with CNet website. Using Windows 7 Home. Will have to switch to Chrome if I can’t get this to work as I’ve already spent a lot of time trying to get it to work.
